4 Healthy Fast Food Recipes
Healthy fast food is probably an oxymoron, in the traditional sense. However, here are some healthy fast food recipes which you can whip up easily and eat without the guilt.
Chicken nuggets
Ingredients required :
- 6 ounces of almonds
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp paprika (preferably smoked)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp fresh black pepper
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup water/milk
- ½ cup flour
- 1½ pound chicken breast, bite-size pieces
- Cooking spray
How to prepare
Preheat your oven to 400 F and line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Fine grind the almonds and add it to a bowl along with salt, smoked paprika, black pepper and garlic powder.
French fries
Ingredients required :
- 1 large potato (per person is usually what works)
- 1 tbsp. olive oil, plus extra if required
- Salt and pepper to taste
How to prepare
Preheat your oven to 390 F.
Mozzarella sticks
Ingredients required :
- 25 string cheese sticks, chopped in half (you can use part skim)
- ½ cup flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tsp. onion powder
- 2 tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp. salt
How to prepare
Preheat your oven to 425F. Line a baking sheet with a foil. Freeze mozzarella sticks for about 30 minutes. In a bowl, add bread crumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, and salt and whisk and combine. Place flour in one bowl and egg in another. Toss the cheese sticks in the flour. Then coat them in egg mixture, followed by the crumb mixture. Repeat coating in egg mixture and crumb one more time. Freeze these sticks for about 15 minutes. Place the mozzarella sticks in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet after spraying the cooking spray. Bake for 5-8 minutes, turn and bake for another 5-8 minutes on another side until golden and crispy.
Chicken Quesadillas
Ingredients required :
- 3-4 chicken breasts
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 2 diced tomatoes (mild or medium)
- One 4-ounce can of chopped green chilies
- 2 cups shredded Mexican style cheese
- 8-12 large flour tortillas
How to prepare
Add chicken, cream cheese, tomatoes, and green chilies to a lightly greased slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours or on low 3-4 hours. Once done, use two forks to shred the chicken breasts. Stir until the mixture is creamy. Preheat a large greased pan or non-stick skillet over medium heat and sprinkle cheese evenly on a tortilla. Spread chicken mixture evenly on top of the cheese. Sprinkle a little more cheese on top of the chicken mixture and top with a second tortilla. Cook the quesadilla over medium heat for about 2 minutes on each side or until cheese melts. Use a pizza cutter to slice quesadillas into triangles. Serve this healthy fast food dish warm with salsa or sour cream.
