Part of the GM family, the Pontiac brand was born as the Oakland Car Company in Michigan way back in 1907 and acquired by GM in 1909. When the first Pontiac car was launched in 1926, it was renowned as the “Chief of the Sixes” for its 6-cylinder engine.
